Young McDonald Wood, Jr. (Don) passed away to his Heavenly home on Friday, April 24, 2026 due to Alzheimer’s Disease. He was surrounded by his loving family as he took his final breath. With deep faith and conviction, we find comfort in knowing Don heard the words “well done thy good and faithful servant” as he entered his eternal home.
Don was a man of many talents, best known for his gift of conversation, infectious smile and unmistakable laughter. He found great joy in helping others, and cherished spending time, often hours, with friends. Above all, he found his greatest happiness in everything involving his family. Don lived by a quote that was especially meaningful to him: “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ”. He often reminded others that while we may fall, we are called to rise again holding firmly to the Holy Bible as God’s word and our anchor. He was a faithful member of Spring Hill Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He gave generously of his time through numerous church committees and was especially known for his involvement in the Community Church Breakfast, a place where his warmth and fellowship shined.
Don was born at home in Rockfish, NC on April 15, 1953. He was a graduate of Hoke High School and attended Fayetteville Technical Community College. He had a successful career as an industrial painter and sandblaster working many dedicated years with J Stone Services until his retirement.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Young McDonald Wood, Sr. (Donald) and Betty Baker Wood Cook; his brother, Barry Baker Wood; and stepfather, Miller Cook.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Beverly Lynn Cooke Wood; his three children, Young McDonald Wood III (Mac) and spouse BJ of Boone, Allen Cole Wood and fiancé Laura Callahan of Wagram, and Mary Ann Todd and spouse Keith Todd of Seven Lakes: five grandchildren, Blake Wood, Emmaleigh Wood, Kaiya Todd, Noah Todd, Gabe Todd; and one great-grandchild, Grayson Wood. Also surviving are his brother, Todd Wood (Corey) of Parkton, and sister, Becky Wood of Raeford; along with a host of loving extended family and many devoted friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, April 29, 2026 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
The funeral service celebrating Don’s life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Spring Hill Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Jeff Stone.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Tiffany Cheek and Pennie Thomas of Scotland Regional Hospice for their loving support and unwavering devotion while he was in their care. We would also like to express our gratitude to Spring Hill Baptist Church for their many prayers, acts of kindness and continued support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spring Hill Baptist Church, Building Fund, P. O. Box 195, Wagram, NC 28396.
