Willie Mae West Smith

Willie Mae West Smith of Laurinburg passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

She was the daughter of the late Edna Mae West and step daughter of the late Earl Nunnally of Robeson County, NC.  She was a loving homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for others as a nursing assistant at the former Edwin Morgan Center and Scottish Pines Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.  Willie Mae loved traveling, shopping and listening to Elvis Presley’s music, and she also enjoyed working in the yard and garden.  Above all, Willie Mae loved sharing her time with family and friends.  Her family will cherish the memories with her and she will never be forgotten.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by sons, Kenny Smith and George Patterson.

Willie Mae is survived by her children, sons, Gene Smith and John Wayne Smith both of Laurel Hill; daughters, Delores Strickland of St. Pauls, Joan Whitehead of Laurinburg who was also a devoted caregiver, and Jeanie Callahan of Laurel Hill; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.   A private interment will be at a later date.   Visitation with the family will be held prior to services on Wednesday beginning at 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
