Willie Lawrence Norton, age 97 of Laurel Hill passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021.
Willie was born September 9, 1923 in Scotland County, son of the late Henry Lawrence Norton and Maude Bullard Norton. He was founder and owner of Norton Vending Company where he worked and retired after many years. Willie enjoyed playing guitar and listening to blue grass music. His family and grandchildren were the joy in his life and he loved spending time with them. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by infant daughter, Clara Norton; brothers, Armand Norton, Alton Norton, Marshall Norton, Teab Norton, Baxter Norton and Ervin Norton; sisters, Emma High Carter, Mary Langley, and Betty Williams.
He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Ida English Norton of the home; sons, Danny Norton (Dorothy) of Laurel Hill, Larry Norton (Cathy) of McColl, SC, Teddy Norton (Pat) of Laurinburg; daughters, Patsy Coates (Ricky), Kathy Stanley (Billy), Phyllis Walters (Jerry) all of Laurinburg, Goldie Cheek (David) of Aberdeen; sisters, Jeanette Sessoms of Laurel Hill, Laurine Howie of Charlotte; seventeen grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren, twenty-seven great-great grandchildren; his special K-9 companion, Blackie, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Bishop Marvin Taylor. Burial will follow in Norton Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
