Willie Howard Hunt, Sr.

Willie Howard Hunt, Sr., loving son of the late Maggie Hunt Chavis and Johnny Oxendine born June 12, 1934 at his home in Robeson County.  He was the devoted and loving husband of 59 years to the late Betty Ann Dial Hunt until her passing in 2018.  He worked in textiles, retiring after many years as a sewing machine mechanic with Rowland Manufacturing.   He faithfully served as a member of New Life Community Church.  Willie enjoyed fishing, gardening, and loved sharing time with his family.  He was an avid sports fan, especially for the Washington Redskins and the late Dale Earnhardt.  Mr. Hunt departed this life for his Heavenly home at the age of 87 on December 30, 2021. 

Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by son, Randy “Drac” Hunt; daughter, Sharon Lynn Hunt; sister, Juanita Lambert; brothers, James Luther Hunt, James Lacy Hunt; grandchildren, Shyane Marcia Locklear, Xaiver Garrett, and great-great grandchild, Tyreon McRae Turner.

Willie leaves behind his children, sons, Rev. Willie Howard Hunts, Jr., and wife, Harriet of Rowland, Rev. Jimmy Dial Hunt and wife, Lorie, of Rowland; daughters, Betty Jane Hunt Oxendine and husband, Ted of Rowland, Virginia Hunt Withers and husband, Virgil of Ruffin, Cherylene Hunt and husband Reggie, of Fairmont, Pamela Sue Hunt of Rowland, Ashley Hunt Montano and husband, Dominic of Pembroke; sister, Katie Hunt Demery of Maxton; twenty six grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.   He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, special cousin, Claudie Chavis, and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Benson Chapel Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. on Monday evening, January 3rd at Benson Chapel Baptist Church, Rowland, NC.
