William “Billy” Thomas Bridges, age 74 of Butner, formerly of Laurinburg passed away Monday, March 16, 2020.
Billy was born August 4, 1945 in Scotland County, son of the late Marion Bridges and Myrtle Owens Bridges. He was a Vietnam War Veteran who proudly served in the United States Navy. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal in Korea and the Vietnam Service Medal. He then served in the Navy Reserves until 1973. Billy retired from the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford after many years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a former member of East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the UNC Tarheels Basketball Team. His family will remember him as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ansel Bridges, Alfred Bridges, Harold Bridges and sister, Beatrice Dixon.
He leaves behind his son, Jonathan Ryan Bridges of Henderson, NC; daughters, April Dawn Bridges of Bullock, NC, Jennifer Leigh Baukman of Sumter, SC, Sheila Bridges Quinn of Clover, SC; brother, Cecil Bridges of Lumberton, NC; sister, Dorothy Danos of Laurinburg, NC; grandchildren, Angelica Rose Sizemore, Gavin Russell Currin, William Blackmon Huckabee, Jr., Ashby Cate Huckabee, Jordan Allen Baukman, Andrea Golmer McLeod; a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Private services will be Noon, Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation attendance is limited and will be prior to the service on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until Noon at the funeral home.
