William "Bill" Harding, Jr. Obituary

William “Bill” Emerson Harding Jr, was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1922 to the late William and Florina Harding.  He passed away on January 20, 2024 at home in Laurinburg at the age of 101. Upon graduation from high school at the age of 16, he went on to graduate in accounting from the Bentley School of Accounting in Massachusetts.  After having served in the US Navy during World War II, he completed additional studies at the University of South Carolina, Harvard Business School and The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan School). 

He was an avid golfer with 5 holes-in-one to his credit.  Bill enjoyed travel and was fortunate to have visited destinations throughout the world. Bill was employed by the Gillette Company with headquarters in Boston, beginning as a Cost Accountant and retiring as Assistant Director of Corporate Engineering. At one point, he served as factory manager in the Mexico City Plant which produced razors and razor blades.

Bill is preceded in death by his son, Robert “Bob” Harding; his wife, Minerva B. Harding; and former wife and mother of his 2 children, Barbara A. Harding. Bill leaves behind his daughter, Deborah “Debby” Harding Williams and son-in-law Ed Williams of Laurinburg, NC; grandchildren, Christina Williams (Kevin) of Laurinburg, Eli Williams of Laurinburg and Samantha H. Anderson of Beaverton, Oregon: great grandchildren; James, Christy, Kalvin, Kevin and Nicky; and great-great grandchildren; Amara and Alana.

The family is grateful for the loving care Bill received from Carolina Hearts, as well as the services of Scotland Regional Hospice.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.  A private service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28352 or The Gideons International, P. O. Box 171, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
