William "Bill" Douglas Bland, Jr.

William “Bill” Douglas Bland, Jr., of Maxton passed away at the age of 71 on May 16, 2023.

Bill was born March 30, 1952 in Bullock County, Georgia son of the late William Douglas Bland, Sr., and the late Irene McElveen Bland.  He was an Electrician working many years with the Campbell Soup Company and then Pilkington Glass until retirement.  After retirement he returned to UNCP to finish his Bachelor’s degree. He enjoyed woodworking, automotive tinkering, and landscaping. Bill attended Trinity Presbyterian Church.  He was a jokester and loved to make others laugh. In his quiet time, he liked to listen to good music and enjoyed bird watching.  Devoted to his family, Bill will dearly be missed by all he loved.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Kelli Bland King.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Ruth Anne Marshall Bland of their home; sons, Kevin Douglas Bland (Lauren) of MacClenny, FL, and Kyle Marshall Bland of Cary, NC; sister, Deborah “Debbie” Bland Koenig of Durham, NC; three grandchildren, Camden, Sophia, Charlotte; and niece, Stephanie Koenig; and special friends, Richard and Sarah Sheppard of Maxton, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Mr. Charles Wentz.   The family will have a time of visitation prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

The family requests donations to be given in Bill’s memory to the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 13000 Blues Farm Road, Laurinburg, NC  28352.
