William Gray Whitt

Mr. William Gray Whitt, age 91 of Wagram passed to his Heavenly home on October 1, 2023.

William was born June 2, 1932 in Surry County, North Carolina, one of ten children of the late Romey G. Whitt and the late Lillie Whitaker Whitt.  He was a devoted husband of 69 years to his loving wife, the late Inez Horne Whitt, a true Godly man who cherished his family and their time together.   He was a hard worker, retired after many years of service in textiles with Charles Craft.  He loved to grow a “big” garden and share produce with his family and friends.   William was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting, especially with his grandsons. 

Along with his parents and wife, preceding William in death, son, James “Buck” R. Whitt; son-in-law, James Cooley; all of his siblings, Jack Whitt, Colen Swan Whitt, Lloyd Whitt, Garley Whitt, Charles Whitt, Richard Whitt, Lucille Bowyers, Lala Jackson and Phyllis Simpson.

Surviving are his children, sons, William Mithell Whitt (Victoria) of Rockingham, Douglas “Doug” Earl Whitt of Wagram, Craig Gray Whitt of Wagram; daughters, Clara Jane “Sissy” Whitt Cooley of Wagram, and Ellen Whitt Futrell (Phillip) also of Wagram; his adored grandsons, Waylon Cooley (Lauren) and William “Will” Futrell, in addition to a host of nieces, nephews and loving family.

A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Wagram.   Family will receive friends following the service at graveside.
