William "Boyd" Powell

William “Boyd” Powell, age 75 of Laurinburg passed away Friday, October 12, 2018.

Boyd was the only son of the late William Frank Powell and Maude Cox Powell born April 6, 1943 in Fayetteville, NC.  He bravely and proudly served his country with the United States Army.   He was a Veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam War where he completed two tours of duty and awarded the Bronze Star with “V” Device.  Following his service duty, he then worked as a truck driver and retired after many years of service.  He attended the River of Life Ministries and enjoyed camping, fishing and riding motorcycles.  To his family, Boyd will forever be remembered as an honorable and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Lyvon Powell and step daughter, Dana Rollins.

Boyd leaves behind his wife, Patricia Jones Powell of the home; sons, Gary Dean Powell (Katrina) of Memphis, TN and William “Robert” Powell ( Danielle) of Darlington, SC; step children, Dawn Benson of Charlotte, Melissa Christian (Willie) and Sean Surgrue (JoAnn); his sister, Cynthia Powell Hoard of Hope Mills; grandchildren, Jaime Nicole Powell, Elsie Anna Powell, William Robert Powell, II, Brennen Alexander Powell, Haden Blane Powell and Liam Thor Rollins.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel.  Interment with military honors will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Cumberland Cemetery, Fayetteville, NC.
