Vera Lee (Clark) Locklear

Vera Lee Clark Locklear of Maxton passed away at the age of 81 on February 20, 2026.

She was born April 22, 1944 in Robeson County, NC, loving daughter of the late Loc E. Clark and the late Carrie Mae Chavis Clark. Along with being a devoted homemaker, Vera earned her Nursing Assistant certification from Richmond Technical Institute. She was a faithful member of Good News Chapel in Laurinburg until her health declined. Vera had a green thumb and spent many joyous days tending to her garden. Above all, time spent with family and taking care of her grandchildren brought her the most joy. Vera was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her adored husband, James Locklear; sons, James Samuel Locklear, Steve Ray Locklear, and grandson, Stevie James Locklear.

Left to rejoice in her memory is daughter, April Lynn Locklear of Maxton; son-in-law, Everette Bethea of Maxton; brother, Donald Ray Clark (Savannah) of Maxton; sisters, Sadie McGirt of Laurinburg, Elouise Locklear of Gibson; sister-in-law, Janie Clark of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Kimberly Anne Locklear, Sammie Jo Locklear, Stephen Locklear, Whitney Locklear, Tiffany Locklear, Stevie Locklear I; eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; along with a host of loving extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in the Good News Chapel Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday beginning 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
