Timothy "Tim" Decker Obituary

Timothy Ervin Decker was born on his mother’s birthday, September 16, 1961. He was the loving son of Dr. Rodger Wayne Decker and Virginia Buhler Decker of Laurinburg. He was a 1979 graduate of Scotland High School and entered the workforce following his graduation. Tim worked at Campbell Soup in Maxton for over 20 years before spending several years working in the farming industry.

In his younger years, Tim was an avid bass fisherman and enjoyed competing in tournaments on lakes throughout the Carolinas. Throughout his life, he was happiest with a fishing pole in his hand or behind the wheel of a tractor. His passion for gardening was contagious. He loved making seasonal trips to Morris Plant Farm and sharing his gardening knowledge with family, often referring to his trusted Farmer’s Almanac as his “Bible.” Tim also found joy in hosting family gatherings around “Uncle Tim’s” pool, creating countless memories filled with laughter.

In addition to his dedication to his work, Tim enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time fishing, watching NASCAR races, following golf and women’s softball, caring for his animals, and enjoying cooking shows. These interests brought him many hours of happiness throughout the years.

Tim will be remembered for being a quiet, loving person, with a sharp mind, gentle spirit and a good sense of humor.

Tim was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dr. Rodger Wayne Decker and Virginia Buhler Decker of Laurinburg.

Tim is survived by his siblings, Susan Williams (Dwight) of Laurinburg, Martha Decker (Bob) of Hilton Head, and Rodger Decker (Melissa) of Greensboro.

He is also survived by his treasured nieces and nephews: Luke Phillips, Hillary Sessions (Matt), Madeline Kim (Nick), Monroe Williams (Alejandra), Logan Decker (Riley), Lee Decker, and Lane Decker.

His greatest joy in recent years was his cherished great-nieces and great-nephews: Hart, Virginia, Decker, and Walt Sessions; Agustín and Sofía Williams; and Carter Kim, all of whom lovingly knew him as Uncle Tim.

A memorial service for Tim will be held at a later date.
