Thelma Evelyn (Dukes) Davis

Thelma Evelyn Dukes Davis, age 92 of Greenwood, South Carolina, formerly of Laurinburg, passed away Monday, March 23, 2020.

Thelma was born in Baltimore, Maryland, a loving daughter of the late Thomas Emmet Dukes, Edith Louise Cochran Elza and lovingly raised by her late step father, Sterling Price Elza.  She was the devoted wife to the late, Carlis Atlee Davis.  She retired after many years of service as a Claims Representative with the Social Security Administration.  She believed in helping others and was recognized for her volunteer service with Scotland Memorial Hospital, Laurinburg, NC and Self Regional Hospital, Greenwood, SC.   Thelma formerly served as a member of Stewartsville Baptist Church in Laurinburg and a long distance member of Stedman Pentecostal Holiness Church, Stedman, NC. 

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Marjorie Elza Waybright; son-in-law, Roger Wayne Ivey; great grandson, Zachery Leland Hollister.

Thelma is survived by her children, daughter, Sharon Davis Ivey-Swofford (Joseph) of Greenwood, SC and son, Robert Atlee Davis (Laura) of Stedman, NC; granddaughters, Jessica Ivey Smoak (Larry) of North Augusta, SC, Lindsay Davis Hollister (Jeremiah) of Fayetteville, NC, Bridgette Davis of Stedman, NC; step brother, Albert Dukes (Ila) of Bel Air, MD and her loving extended family.

A private graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday,  March 27, 2020 in Hillside Memorial Park officiated by Preacher, J.D. Tew

The family requests in lieu of flowers for memorial donations to be given to Hospice, Alzheimer’s Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

AT THIS TIME, FEDERAL AND STATE OFFICIALS HAVE MANDATED LIMITING ALL GATHERINGS FROM 10 TO NO MORE THAN 50 PEOPLE.  THIS MANDATE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE BASED ON FORCOMING CHANGES BY OFFICIALS.  IN ORDER TO KEEP ALL OF OUR FAMILIES SAFE DURING THIS TIME, RICHARD BOLES FUNERAL SERVICE WILL ABIDE BY ALL MANDATES.
