Obituary

Stewart Ray Green at the age of 80 was called home to be with the Lord on September 15, 2023 after a period of declining health.  He was born June 15, 1943 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, son of the late Raymond Harkley Green and the late Emma Lee Lamb Green.  Stewart was a devoted husband to Sandra for 60 years, the loving father of Ray and Mike, and an adoring grandfather.   He lived a long, full life with his adored family who also loved spending time camping, deer hunting and fishing whether in fresh water, deep sea or surf fishing.  He had wonderful memories being a member of the Morgan Hunting Club for many years.

Stewart was a successful welder working with several construction companies as well as being self-employed.  A jack of all trades, he proudly built with the help of his sons, their family home and farm. His special love for animals grew into a farm and happy home for his cows and many beloved dogs.  Gardening was also one of his pleasures, especially growing his famous tomatoes.  He was an avid NASCAR fan of the late Dale Earnhardt and enjoyed the hobby of taxidermy.  Stewart enjoyed attending Laurel Hill Baptist Church with his family. During a special time of prayer with Ray, Stewart accepted the eternal salvation of Christ. Though he will be greatly missed, he is at peace in his Heavenly home.

Left to rejoice in his memory are wife, Sandra Britt Green of their home; sons, Stewart
“Ray” Green, Jr., (Sheila) of Laurinburg, and Michael “Mike” Green (Sheri) of Nashville; brother, Gerald Wayne Green (Ruth) of Randleman; grandchildren, Olivia Allison Talbot (Daniel) of Farmville, Dylan Ray Green (Rachel) of Jacksonville, Ryan Green of Austin, TX; great granddaughter, Adelaide Rose Talbot; step grandchildren, Anthony Copeland (Jesi),  Paxton Trombley (Avery) , Hannah Strawderman (Jimmy), Leslie Craddock, Miranda Quick; step great grandchildren, Oliver and Ryan Strawderman, Remi Copland, Tanner, Callie, Presley, Nicholas, Jackson and Cameron; nieces, Tammy Cox and Tina Ivey; nephew, Steven Green; his special longtime friend, Chuck Goldston and neighbor, Ron Fetterley; along with a host of loving family and friends.

The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Don Malpass and Pastor Carson Hilburn.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.    A private graveside committal will be 3:00 p.m. in Hollywood Cemetery, Lumberton, NC

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be given in Stewart’s memory to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC   28353

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Chaplain and Staff of Scotland Regional Hospice for their special care given during their time of need as well as the many visits and prayers of Pastor Kyle Wycoff.
