Shirley Ann Calhoun Wilkes

Shirley Ann Calhoun Wilkes of Wagram, NC departed this life at the age of 87 on October 31, 2023.

Shirley was born October 21, 1936 in Scotland County, NC, daughter of the late Roy Bethel Calhoun Sr., and the late Cliffie Frances Arrington Calhoun. She was a graduate in the Class of 1956 of Laurel Hill High School. Shirley was a feisty, hardworking woman who dedicated her life to caring for her family as a homemaker along with working in textiles at JP Stevens, Inc., until her retirement.  Shirley served as a longtime member of Caledonia United Methodist Church who also enjoyed attending services at other churches.

 She cherished time spent with her family and friends.  She also enjoyed cooking, baking and sharing meals with her family. Shirley was a loving and giving person who will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her adored husband, Bobby Wilkes.

Shirley is survived by her stepchildren, Keith Wilkes (Teresa), Wayne Wilkes, and Richard Wilkes; brother, Roy Bethel “Bubba” Calhoun, Jr.; grandchildren, Steven Wilkes, Brittany Wilkes High, Amber Wilkes, Brandon Wilkes, Travis Wilkes, Casey Wilkes, Patrick Wilkes, Justin Wilkes; great-grandchildren, Colton Austin, Gearson High, Jenna Wilkes; nieces and nephews, Cliffer Calhoun, Rolinda Patterson, Bud Calhoun, James Calhoun, Velna "Ann" Freeman; along with a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to services on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
