Shirley Thompson Smith was born April 1, 1955 in Scotland County, North Carolina, loving daughter of the late Burnard Thompson and Iris Marleen Jernigan Thompson and devoted wife to the late Randy Smith. She worked many years in the family business of Thompson’s Store in the Midway Community, and in most recent years with Walmart Supercenter. She served as a member of the East Laurinburg Baptist Church. Shirley was an avid NASCAR fan who also enjoyed cross stitching and working with her plants and flowers. She had a love for cats, especially her feline companion “Kid-Kid”. Shirley passed away at the age of 66 on October 16, 2021.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Burnard “Bobby” Thompson, Jr. (Judy) of Laurinburg; sister, “Peggy” Patricia Thompson of Arizona; nephew, Brian Thompson and nieces, Malerie Thompson, Valerie Thompson-Rubio, Courtney Lockey; four great nieces, four great nephews, along with her extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the East Laurinburg Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Richard Tyson. Burial will follow in the Midway Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
