Mrs. Shirley Adkins Teal of Laurel Hill, NC, passed away to her Heavenly home at the age of 78 on Saturday, October 11, 2025. She was a beloved sister, aunt and dear friend who truly cherished her family. She will deeply be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Joe Adkins, Sr., and Ruby Christine Roller Adkins Thorton, born on May 7, 1947, in Rockingham, NC. A graduate of Laurinburg High School, Shirley dedicated 17 years to customer service at Lowe’s before her retirement. She was a beautiful singer and could often be heard singing Happy Birthday over their loud speaker. She faithfully served as an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Rockingham, NC. In her quiet time, Shirley enjoyed reading a good book.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, William Woodrow Teal, Jr.
Shirley is survived by her loving family, including her brothers, Joe Adkins, Jr., and wife Linda, Jimmy Adkins and wife Deborah, and Terry Adkins and wife Carol, all residing in Laurinburg; her sister, Judy Lawson and husband Fred of Cleveland, Tennessee. Shirley also had five nephews and two nieces whom she adored, Joey Adkins (Candy), Tilisa Adkins, Angela Lawson, Keith Adkins, Shane Lawson, Jamie Adkins, and Jason Adkins; along with a wide circle of extended family and friends.
A funeral service honoring her memory will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel, with burial to follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Visitation will take place prior to services on Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
