Shelby Wright Stubbs was born July 23, 1937 in Robeson County, NC, daughter of the late Clarence and Bertha Black Lucas. She was the loving wife of 50 years to the late William George Stubbs. Shelby retired after many years as office manager, working for Z.V. Pate, Inc. and Marley Corporation, as well as other industries throughout Scotland County. She was known for her talent of sewing and making old fashioned country curtains. She also enjoyed her time quilting, dancing, cooking, and baking. Shelby adored her family and will always be remembered as a dedicated, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away at the age of 84 on April 19, 2022.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Stanton.
Shelby is survived by her sons, Dennis Wright of Gibson, William Douglas Stubbs (Evonne) of Winston Salem; daughters, Sharon Wright of Pinehurst, Donna Wright of Charlotte, Deborah Wright Dees of Gibson, Kristi Ormand (Mitch) of Charlotte; brother, Rev. Gary Lucas (Betty) of Parkton; sister, Margaret Hogan of Gibson; her grandchildren, Tiffany Wright, Dennis “Michael” Wright, Jr. (Madison), Gene Smith, Michael “Brandon” Dees, Walker Wright, William Douglas Stubbs, Jr., Derek Stubbs, great grandchildren, Maddox Wright, Brixon Everette Wright, Mia Bella Stubbs, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2022 in the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Rev. Gary Lucas. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
