Sarah Melinda “Linda” Breeden McClendon was a loving daughter of the late Arthur James Breeden and Sarah Martha Davis Breeden born July 7, 1940 at their home in Red Springs, North Carolina. She completed her studies in business at Flora McDonald College, then began her working career as a Lab Technician with Scotland Memorial Hospital and later retiring after 44 years of service with Averitt’s Electric Motor Repair in 2015. She formerly served as a member of the East Laurinburg Baptist Church where she was the Girls in Action Leader, Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher and loved singing in the choir. She loved her church and faithfully served at New Hope Baptist Church until her declining health. Linda enjoyed her card ministry, always remembering as many as she could on special occasions and in the time of need with a special note.
Linda was a Godly woman who faithfully loved and cared for her family. A true prayer warrior, confidant and listener, with a humble heart always showing love and forgiveness. She loved caring for her great grandbabies, baking for her family and others, reading her Bible, completing word puzzles and working in her flowers. She was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan, watching them play every game as well as listening to every Scotland Football game. Linda was a devoted wife, precious mother, wonderful Nana, loving sister whose memory will forever be treasured. She entered her Heavenly home at the age of 81 on November 21, 2021.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, William Breeden, Richard Breeden, Jimmy Breeden, brothers-in-law, Kenneth Bruce, and Ben Stanton.
Linda leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Mackie Ray McClendon of the home; son, Michael Ray McClendon of Laurinburg; daughter, Cindy McClendon Cross of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Brandi Cross Flanagan (Devan) of Laurinburg, Sarah Kathryn Cross (Chandler) of Laurinburg; great grandchildren, Bradley, Emilia and Amberly Flanagan; and daughter, Fran Wynn of Taylorsville; her brother, David Breeden (Jackie) of Ocean Isle Beach; sisters, JoAnn B. Craven of Gibson, Jane Williford of Ocean Isle Beach, Toni Carol Bruce of Maxton, Anita Stanton of Cherryville, and Sandy McKenzie (Jim) of West End. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, loving family and many friends.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Michael Malpass and Rev Richard Tyson. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. A private interment will be at a later date.
The family requests donations be given in Linda’s memory to New Hope Baptist Church, 11480 Hasty Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
