Mrs. Sarah Sessoms Rhoden, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, devoted sister, aunt and friend departed this life for her Heavenly home on January 21, 2026 at the age of 91. She will deeply be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sarah was one of ten children of the late Roosevelt and Mae Sessoms born October 15, 1934 in Laurinburg, North Carolina. She was a wonderful homemaker who’s work ethic was above and beyond most. She was the greeting face of Jimmy’s Seafood, then Captain Larry’s where she worked in management until her retirement. She had the great pleasure of being The Avon Lady, sharing products and her customer service for over 40 years. In younger years, sewing, ceramic crafting and traveling brought her a lot of joy. She loved Christmas and always worked hard to make sure everyone had a present to open. Sarah loved her family and treasured each one and their time shared together.
Along with her parents, Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Rhoden; brothers, Paul Sessoms and John Sessoms; sisters, Mary Catherine Rogers, Hazel Lathan, and Lela Haywood.
She leaves behind her sons, Marvin Rhoden of Laurinburg, Gerald Rhoden and daughter-in-law, Jackie of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Nicolas Rhoden, Christian Rhoden; great grandchildren, Lexi Rhoden and Jonah Rhoden; sisters, Ruby Locklear, Kathleen Scott (DC), Jean Byrd (Jimmie), and Doris Jones, each of Laurinburg. She is also survived by a host of adoring nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Woody Byrd. Burial will follow in the Laurinburg Memorial Park. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express with special gratitude for the love and care of the staff of Scottish Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Scotland Regional Hospice.
