Samuel "Sam" Barnhill

Mr. Samuel “Sam” Barnhill, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather passed to his Heavenly home at the age of 91 in the early morning of May 4, 2025.  A true Godly gentleman who will dearly be missed.  

One of six children of the late Kurtis Cleveland “KC” Barnhill and the late Elizabeth “Lizzie” McGee Barnhill, Sam was a Christmas baby born December 25, 1933 in Laurinburg, North Carolina.  He would marry the love of his life, Celesta Faye Ray Barnhill on January 21, 1953 sharing their lives together for 63 years until her passing in 2016.  Sam loved and adored his family and extremely proud of his grandchildren and their many accomplishments.

Sam had an outgoing personality who never met a stranger which led to his successful career as an Insurance Agent for over 38 years of service with the Life of Georgia Insurance Company.  He and Faye were faithful members of the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church where Sam served many years as a Deacon or where he was needed.  He was also an avid sports fan who loved golf and cherished his time as a former Optimist Little League Coach. Following his retirement, Sam took delight in helping families in need as a member of the Richard Boles Funeral Service staff for many years.  

Along with his parents and wife, preceding him in death is granddaughter, Jessica Barnhill; and each of his siblings, Issac C. Barnhill, Jesse L. Barnhill, Fairley Barnhill, Carolyn Arnette and Betty Quick.

Mr. Sam is survived by his children, sons, Samuel “Wayne” Barnhill (Carlette) of Oak Island, NC; Jeffrey “Dale” Barnhill (Bobbi) of Aledo, TX; his daughter, Sonya “Celeste” Morton (Doug) of Pinehurst, NC; grandchildren, Katie Barnhill, Lindsey Patino, Kristin Barnhill, Taylor Morton, Cameron Morton; great grandchildren, Alysse Bellard, LeaOnna Bellard, Javaughn Bellard, Ociana Patino, Ariana Patino, Cameron Hanson, Sydney Schnare; great-great grandchildren, Maddyx Faye, Sutton, Gracelynn, Wrenlee and Railynn.  He also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family and devoted friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Hillside Memorial Park.    A time of visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
