Mr. Samuel Dougal Middleton, Sr., of Maxton, NC, departed this life at the age of 81 on October 2, 2024.
Samuel was born December 13, 1942 in Scotland County, North Carolina, loving son of the late Daniel Lauchlin Middleton and the late Laura Winston Baker Middleton. He was a proud Veteran who served in the United States Army. Sam was a faithful active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Maxton, serving as a Deacon and in the Men’s Bible Class. He was an avid reader and in his earlier years enjoyed being a little league baseball coach. Above all, he was a family man whose greatest joy came from time shared with family, especially his grandchildren. Samuel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Daniel Lauchlin Middleton, Jr., James Duncan Middleton, William B. Middleton, Peggy Middleton Craig, Laura Middleton Newton, Catherine “Kitty” Middleton Currie; and nephews, William Blue Currie, Jr., Alec Middleton.
He is survived by his adored wife of 58 years, Patricia Holland Middleton of the home; sons, Samuel “Sam” D. Middleton, Jr., of Chapel Hill, William Holland Middleton (Linh) of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter, Lee Ann Middleton of Maxton; sister, Patsy Ann Middleton of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Sarah Middleton also of Charlotte; grandchildren, Elena Middleton, Lily Middleton; special niece and caregiver, Ayn Muse Middleton; loving nieces and nephews, Matthew Middleton, Nancy Middleton, Scott Newton; along with his loving extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church of Maxton.
Burial with military honors will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation with family will follow services at graveside.
