Mrs. Sadie Lytch Odom of Gibson departed this life at the age of 102 on December 15, 2025. She lived a full life of love and service to others.
She was born April 9, 1923 in Gibson, NC, the loving daughter of the late Belton and Mamie Gibson Lytch. Sadie began her working career with Farm Services for eight years before she held the position of Postmaster with the United States Postal Service for twenty-eight devoted years until retiring. She served as a faithful member and former Sunday School teacher of Gibson United Methodist Church. Sadie loved her community and volunteered with numerous community services for many dedicated years within the Town of Gibson and Scotland County. She served on the Lumber River Council for twenty-three years where she was the first female chairman of the Lumber River board and first female to represent the council. Sadie also held the position of Mayor of the Town of Gibson for twenty-six years and was a member of the Gibson Town Council for five years. On August 3, 2019, Sadie received the prestigious award, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, presented by the Governor for her commitment and significant contributions to her state and community. Sadie will be truly missed and remembered for her love and devotion to both her family and her community.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 77 years, Grover C. “G.C.” Odom, Jr.; sister, Martha Lytch Gibson; and brothers, B.P. Lytch and James Lytch.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, Grover C. “Buck” Odom, III and Douglas L. Odom; daughter, Jean Odom Yates; six grandchildren, Kelly Maher and Brittnie Edwards (Trellis), Brad “Boo” Odom (Anna), Andy Odom, Erick Odom (Collette), Emily Rainwarter (Brandon), and ten great-grandchildren; along with many loving extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at the Gibson United Methodist Church. Interment will follow the service in Pinecrest Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 beginning 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
