Ruth Blue Lee (Hooks) of Mason’s Cross, North Carolina passed away November 18th, 2020.
Surviving Ruth are her children, Adam Worth Tharrington of Raleigh, and Mary Blue Tharrington, of Mason’s Cross. She leaves her brothers David Hooks of Stafford, VA and James Hooks of Rockingham, NC; Nieces and nephews Jean Fortune (Chris), James R. Reedy III (Jennifer), Rebecca Hooks, and Robert Hooks; Ruth was a loving aunt to great nieces and nephews, Aaron Fortune (Jordan), Hannah Johnson (Daniel), Niall Reedy, Holden Hinson, Baker Johnson and Reedy Johnson. She is preceded in death by her husband John Lee; mother and fathers Martha Blue, Bill Hooks, and Lynn Castleberry; sister Martha Lynn Hall and niece Lynn Reedy; and brother Robert Castleberry.
Ruth was born to Martha and Lynn Castleberry on April 11th , 1954. After the death of her father Lynn, her mother remarried and she and her siblings were adopted by their step father, Bill Hooks. Ruth was raised in Raleigh, she went to East Carolina University where she studied Nursing, and returned to Raleigh to begin her career as a nurse of 40 years in the ICU of Rex Hospital. She retired in 2016 as Clinical Manager of Laurinburg Fresenius Kidney Care.
Ruth’s biggest joy in life was her children and the time spent with them. She loved the beach, and spent nearly every summer in Swansboro and Emerald Isle, NC. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, reading, and cuddling her toy poodle, Mini. As a friend to all animals, she loved caring for her chickens, ducks, dogs, cats, and her turtle Howard. She had love for any living being and would care for any creature, big or small. To say that Ruth was caring and kind would be an understatement, and that was apparent to anyone she met. The love, joy, and light she brought to the world will never leave the hearts and memories of anyone who knew her, especially her children Adam and Mary who will miss her beyond measure but know she will always be with them.
The family would like to thank the staff of Scotland Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit and Hospice of Scotland County. In lieu of flowers, they ask donations be made in Ruth’s name to Scotland Regional Hospice, PO Box 1033, 610 Lauchwood Drive, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
A memorial celebrating her life will be held after the first of January 2021, to be announced by the family pending arrangements.
