Rufus “Buck” Rogers, age 91 of Laurinburg passed away to his Heavenly home Thursday, April 29, 2021.
Rufus was born October 10, 1929 in Marlboro County, SC, son of the late Arthur Rogers and Eliza Faulk Rogers. He proudly joined the United States Marine Corps before transferring into the United States Army. During his time of honorable service, he was awarded the Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service, five Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal. Following his time in service, Rufus began his career with the NC Department of Corrections retiring as lieutenant after 20 years of service. He was an active, faithful member of Springfield Church of God as well as a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He enjoyed working with concrete and doing his yardwork. Rufus most enjoyed spending time with his family and will always be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will truly be missed.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Saunders; brothers, Carven Rogers, Prentiss Rogers, Arthur Rogers, Jr.; sisters, Louise Love and Annalee Bone.
Rufus leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 70 years, Ruby Simmons Rogers of the home; sons, Darrell Rogers, Steven Rogers, both of Laurinburg, Michael Simmons (Deborah) of Rowland; daughter, Janet Rogers Mudd (Archie “Andy” Mudd) of Laurinburg; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353, in appreciation to the special care given by Jeanne Hardee.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Springfield Church of God, officiated by Pastor David Shoemake. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the church.
