Roy Odell Young was the son of the late Thad and Lila Jane Young, He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on February 25, 1945 and at an early age, the family moved to Laurinburg, NC, where Roy married and raised his family. He passed away at the age of 81 on May 7, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family.
Roy worked hard all his life to provide for his family. He began his career at John Mansville for a period then went on to become a supervisor at Lee L. Woodard for over 30 years. Following that he went to work with Flakeboard in Bennettsville, SC, where he officially retired. During most of his employment years, he owned and operated Young’s Lawn Care.
Roy was a hard worker and faithful Christian who loved the Lord. He attended the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church until the building of the new church, Cross Pointe where he faithfully served both as a Deacon.
His passion was fishing in all types of water, lakes, ocean or ponds. He was a faithful member of the Sandhill Bass Masters until his health declined. Roy also played many characters; his favorite was Santa for all the children and Ernest Hemingway in Key West was another.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Butler; Brother, JT. Young; and granddaughter, Jayla Stone.
Roy is survived by his wife, Madeline Young who he married in 1986; his four children, Robin Thompson (Vince) of Laurel Hill, NC, Dawn Elizabeth Morton of Townsville, SC, Royce Young (Chasity) of Asheboro, NC, Mitchell Young of Benson, NC; Two bonus sons, Jay Stone and Billy Stone of Georgia; fourteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brother, Terry young (Danella) of Lake Wylie, SC; loving cousin, Gloria Solanto of Pennsylvania; along with a host of loving extended family and many friends.
Memorial donations are requested to be given to Scotland Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353, or Cross Pointe Church, P.O. Box 1046, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
Funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at the Richard Boles Service Chapel followed by burial in Hillside Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held prior to services on Tuesday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
