Roy Thomas Strickland

Roy Thomas Strickland of Maxton, North Carolina departed this life on Monday, March 20, 2023.  He was born 80 years ago in Robeson County, North Carolina to the late Fred Strickland and the late Ada Strickland.

Roy enjoyed the great outdoors whether it be working on the farm or tending to his garden. When he wasn’t found outdoors you could find him watching NASCAR racing, a good ole western, or WWE wrestling on the television. Roy most enjoyed spending time with his family, telling one of his great stories, or being the family jokester. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Roy will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his children, Nelson Roy Strickland and Gloria Strickland; brothers, Joe Strickland and Leon Strickland; and sister, Dorothy Strickland Terry; special nephew, NC State Trooper Johnny R. Strickland.

Left to rejoice in his memory is his beloved wife, Catherine Strickland of the home; daughters, Connie Barefoot (Junior Lawson), Beverly Sweat both of Maxton, NC; brother, Donald Strickland of Maxton, NC; grandchildren, Courtney Strickland, Kelly Lynn Strickland, Garrett Adam Sweat, Scottie Wayne Parker; special nieces and nephews, Billie Jo Strickland Phillips, Robin Lynn Strickland, Christopher Strickland, and Donald Thompson; along with a host of extended family and friends. 

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023 in the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be prior to the services from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
