Roland Wells Thorpe was born June 16, 1956 in Conway, South Carolina, and grew up in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Security Specialist. Roland raised his family in Laurinburg, North Carolina, and retired from Campbell Soup in 2016. He was an avid Miami Dolphins Football fan, enjoyed cutting the grass, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Roland passed away on December 9, 2024, at the age of 68.
He is survived by his spouse, Barbara Clewis Thorpe; son, Roland W. Thorpe Jr., and daughter-in-law, Rachel Thorpe; daughter, Marsha Thorpe Gilliland; daughter, Amanda Thorpe Mallory; son, Charles Thorpe; 10 grandchildren, KC Smith, Kenny Smith, Justin Thorpe, Victor Douglas, Letitia Mallory, Levi Mallory, Damian Douglas, Alana Douglas, Noah Thorpe and Madeline Thorpe; sister, Gayle Thorpe; sister, Carol Lampman; brother, Lewis Thorpe and sister-in-law, Cynthia Thorpe.
He was predeceased by his parents, Marcel Thorpe and Jeanette Imbriale, and brother, Devon Thorpe.
The Memorial service with military honors will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the funeral home.
