Robert "Ray" Chavis

Robert “Ray” Chavis, age 70 of Laurinburg, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020.

Ray was the loving son of the late Robert Louis Chavis and Magie Locklear Chavis, born April 3, 1950 in Scotland County.  His life work was in farming and being an outdoorsman enjoying gardening, landscaping and fishing. His greatest joy was sharing time with his family.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Earl Chavis.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Josephine Heaton Chavis of the home; sons, Delton Chavis (Barbara Jean) of Laurel Hill, Joshua Corneal of Zebulon; his daughters, Donna Sessoms (James), Patty Chavis (Special friend, Grady), Teresa Locklear (Eric) all of Laurinburg; brothers, Randolph Chavis, Jerry Chavis both of Laurinburg; sisters, Barbara Wright and Patricia Jacobs both of Laurinburg, Glenda “Linda” Smith of Raleigh; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren along with a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2020 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Dorothy Barnes and Rev. Matthew Haynes.   Burial will follow the service in Hillside Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends prior to services on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

Due to the COVID-19 mandates and to ensure public safety, facial masks are requested and attendance will be limited.
