Robert Alonzo Williams, devoted father, loving grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend departed this life at the age of 86 on July 3, 2024.
Robert was born in Gaston County, NC, on March 17, 1938, only son of the late Alonzo Virginus Williams and Eva Vanness “Vanny” Bailey Williams. Robert proudly served our nation in the United States Army. He began his welding career and was an instructor with Richmond Community College. He then joined Butler Manufacturing where he worked many dedicated years until retiring. Robert was a simple man who enjoyed farming, listening to blue grass music, spending time hunting, and caring for his many goats . Above all, he cherished time shared with his family. Robert will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a “Great Dad” who enjoyed simple pleasures and love of family.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his adored wife, Betty Norton Williams; sisters, Betty Newman, Rebecca Huskins, and Ruth P. Williams.
Robert is survived by his son, Lawrence Williams (Juanita) of Laurel Hill; daughters, Heather Smith of New York City, NY, and Laura Gibson (T.G.) of Gibson; sister, Mary Frances Greene of Mt. Holly; grandchildren, Elisabeth Jameson (Paul), Samuel Williams, Jordan Hunt, Jason Williams, Katelyn Floyd (Spencer), Daniel Williams (Alyssa), Margeaux Smith-Brown (Nicholas); nine great-grandchildren; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Services will be held at graveside 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024 in the Norton Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at graveside.
