Richard Axel Starner, age 84 of Laurel Hill passed away at home May 9, 2022.
Richard was born January 9, 1938 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, son of the late Robert J. Starner and Arvilla Lucille Nealer. Richard proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was owner and operator of his business as a plumber, serving the community throughout the area. He attended Sandhills Freewill Baptist Church, was an avid NASCAR fan, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, football, and especially his rides through the country. Above all, he loved his family and spending time with each of them. Richard will forever be missed as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Robert Aaron Starner and daughter-in-law, Brenda Williams Starner.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Frances Locklear Starner of the home; son, Richard Starner, Jr. (Christy) of Laurel Hill; daughters, Caroline Starner of Laurel Hill, Mary Ann Britt (Stacy) of Wagram; brother, Steve Starner; sister, Lavon Gilbert, both of Michigan; eight grandchildren, many great grandchildren, along with his nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2022 at Sandhills Freewill Baptist Church, Laurel Hill, officiated by Rev. Willie Jacobs. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the church.
