Richard Lee Powell. Sr., age 80 of Laurinburg passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020.
Richard was born October 10, 1939 in Columbus County, a son of the late James Henry Powell and Bertha Ward Powell. He was in the well drilling business, serving the community for many years. He enjoyed time communicating on his CB Radio. His family was most important to Richard and he loved spending time with each of them. He will forever be missed as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Lynn Powell; brothers, James Powell, Marvin Powell, Paul Powell, Willard Powell and sisters, Esther Trahan and Muriel Gore.
Richard leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Patricia Cole Powell of the home; son, Richard “Richie” Lee Powell, Jr. of Indiana and daughter, Rachel Leighann Powell Varner, her husband, James Varner of Laurinburg; brother, Rev. Luther Powell of Laurinburg; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a host of loving nieces, nephews and many friends.
Due to the COVID-19 mandate, a private Graveside service for immediate family will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2020 in Hillside Memorial Park.
STATE OFFICIALS HAVE MANDATED LIMITING GATHERINGS TO NO MORE THAN 50 PEOPLE. IN ORDER TO KEEP ALL OF OUR FAMILIES SAFE AT THIS TIME, RICHARD BOLES FUNERAL SERVICE WILL ABIDE BY THIS MANDATE.
