Jerry Oxendine, age 66, of Laurinburg, NC received his heavenly welcome on May 14, 2021. Born December 4, 1954 in Scotland County, Jerry was the only child of Mary Bull.
A loving and devoted husband of 22 years, he leaves behind his soulmate, Dorothy Mae Oxendine, and his children, James Matthew (Jennifer) of Jacksonville, FL, Rebekah Oxendine Snead (Timothy, Connor Randall) of Laurinburg, Kimberly Winburn (Bobby) of Tatum, SC, Richard James Patterson Jr., (Geneva) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, and Savannah Woessner (Christopher) of Laurinburg, NC. A proud grandfather to a number of special grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jerry was a loving example of, “Happy is the man that hath his quiver full…” (Psalm 127:5).
Jerry is also survived by his mother, Mary Bull, and the late James Homer Bull, both of Laurinburg, and Sam Locklear of Maxton, NC. Special aunts, Jeanette Sheppard of Laurinburg and Gladys Locklear, of Little Rock, SC, survive, as well as a host of family and friends.
Reverend Jerry Oxendine recognized his calling to the ministry in 1986, beginning as an evangelist under the mentorship of Reverend R.P. Fields of East Laurinburg Church of God. Reverend Oxendine’s ministry spanned a period of 35 years, leaving a lasting impact on any and all who came in contact with him. In 1999, he founded Charity Outreach Holiness Church and served as their faithful and committed pastor until his passing.
Reverend Oxendine shared a special relationship with his Savior and prioritized the work of the Lord above all things, ever striving to “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). His life was rooted in a deep love and commitment to the Word of God and he lived by example with a servant’s heart. A true prophet, his ministry was gifted a special anointing and fire from our Heavenly Father. He was quick to listen, slow to speak, and sought God in prayer for every matter.
He was the heart and foundation of his home, unifying two broken families to create one blended family; teaching them to love, honor and obey the Lord. One of his greatest joys was to worship with his family in church. Every area of his life was connected to his desire to live in dedication to God. His legacy and faithfulness, even unto death, will be unmatched.
The Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Charity Outreach Holiness Church with longtime friend Reverend Alex D. Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park with his sons and family serving as pallbearers.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 6-9 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial donations be given in his memory to Charity Outreach Holiness Church, Post Office Box 2051, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
