On May 26, 2026, Reese D. Butler was called home at the age of 93. He passed peacefully while his daughter-in-law and granddaughter sang his favorite hymns.
Reese was born in Marlboro County, SC on September 13, 1932, loving son of the late Fred Boyd Butler and the late Dora Stacy Butler. He was a valued employee of Quality Gas for many dedicated years until retiring. Reese loved to be outside tending to his garden, going fishing, and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys fan. Reese Butler lived a long, active, and full life. He has now found peace and healing in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Reese is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ruth Butler; son, Richard Butler; daughters, Lulu Sessoms and Wanda Roller; grandson, Jonathan Butler; daughter-in-law, Linda Butler; brothers, Corbitt Butler, Johnny Butler, James Butler, Fred Butler, Gurley Butler; and sisters, Janie Driggers and Mary Quick.
He leaves behind his sons, Gary Ray Butler of Marion, SC, James Alan Butler of Florence, SC; son-in-law, Mike Sessom of Laurel Hill; daughter-in-law, Susan Butler Sanders of Laurinburg; brother, Carl Butler; the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; along with many loving extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Laurinburg Memorial Park.
A time of visitation will be held prior to the services on Saturday beginning 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
