Ralph "Shorty" Leviner Obituary

Mr. Ralph Leviner, 89 of Marston entered enteral rest on October 18, 2024 after a brief illness.

Ralph was born in Scotland County, NC, on December 29, 1934 to Neil Leviner and Leola Burke Leviner of Laurel Hill, NC.  Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by two dear friends, Leroy Scott and Mumford Dial, both of Maxton.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mrs. Betty English Leviner of the home; his one and only daughter, whom he loved dearly, Karen Denise Leviner (Ernie Blue); three wonderful grandchildren, who were precious to him, Christopher, Aaron and Heather Walters all of Marston; as well as a sister, Linda Holcombe of Newbern, her children, Corbette and Kimberly H. Banks.  Also left to cherish his memory is a very special cousin whom Ralph loved like a son, Randy Grooms (Edna) of Gibson, as well as many other family members and friends.

Ralph worked for many years at the Farm Implement Company until he retired. Following retirement, Ralph worked jobs with his friend, Leroy, as well as other random jobs that he could involve himself.  Up until the very end, you could find Ralph outside tinkering on something, picking with his Yorkie pal Jiggs, driving Mrs. Betty crazy, or talking for hours with Randy on the phone.   If there was a piece of fish that had been fried, Ralph would want a spot at the table.  He enjoyed many meals at Captain Larry’s, his favorite restaurant.

A large part of Ralph’s life he took great pride in was music. At the age of 7, Ralph learned how to play guitar, taught by his uncle Marshall Grooms.  As his love for music grew, Ralph began picking on the pedal steel guitar, an instrument he perfected over the course of his life.  He was involved with several bands, such as Country Cooking, The Classics, Night Hawks, and Calvary’s Way.  Late at night, you could hear Ralph practicing his steel guitar, replaying the same part of the song he had been working on hundreds of times, much to the irritation of Mrs. Betty.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in the Oak Grove Church Cemetery, Wallace, SC.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
