Phyllis Davis Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Phyllis Kay Abernethy Davis (Phyl), who departed this world at the age of 65 on August 9, 2024. Phyl was a beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished friend whose warmth and vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Born on June 5, 1959, Phyl lived a life rich with love, adventure, joy, and sass. Her passion for the outdoors was evident in her many interests—whether it was enjoying the sun, sand, and body surfing at the beach, boating and water skiing, or showing off her athleticism on the diving board. She also enjoyed bird watching, a hobby that is exemplified by an accumulation of over one hundred ceramic collectables.

At age 16, Phyl found her 1st true love; a red 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, which symbolized her adventurous spirit and zest for life. As a devoted family member, she cherished every moment with her loved ones. Her family was her world, and she embraced her roles as wife and mother with unwavering dedication.

For 40 years Phyl was also deeply committed to her work families. Whether at LOF Glass, St. Andrews, or Scotland County Schools, she made lasting friendships and left a meaningful impact. Her commitment extended to her faith community as a proud member of First United Methodist Church and to the Albemarle Hunt Club as well who acknowledge her hard work, support, and devotion by accepting her into membership as an honorary member in 2021.

She is survived by her loving husband, Andy Davis, her children Garrett Davis, Ross Davis, Walker Davis and wife Alexis, her grandchildren Andrew, Hayden,  Phillip, her father Jack and mother Dora Abernethy, her siblings Lynn Jones, Joe Ryan, Shannon Ryan and Jackie Ivey. She was preceded in death by her maternal mother, Kay Essey Ryan.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 2 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Laurinburg. A visitation will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Church and Community Services at 108 South Gill Street, Laurinburg, NC 28352.

Phyl will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love, joy, and “sass” will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing her. Rest in peace. We’ll see ya when we see ya…
