Phyllis Cox Obituary

     Phyllis Peele Cox was born June 5, 1938 in Marlboro County, South Carolina, loving daughter of the late William Everette Peele and Hazel Goodwin Peele. She was a devoted homemaker and retired after 30 years of service as a telephone operator from Southern Bell. She served as a faithful member of the Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Phyllis loved working outside in her yard, gardening, and helping others. She loved volunteering with the Telephone Pioneers, Red Hatters Society, Laurel Hill Lions Club and the Domestic Battered Women's Shelter. Above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her family and many friends. Phyllis passed into her heavenly home on July 4, 2020 at the age of 82.

     Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Cox, and a brother, W.E. Peele, Jr.

     She leaves behind her children, sons, Hamp Walters and wife, Tina of Gastonia; Chris Cox and wife, Angie of Laurel Hill; her daughter, Jennifer Walters Smith and husband, Rayford of Laurel Hill; brothers, Shuler Peele and wife Madeline of Gibson; Gary Peele and wife Patricia of Hamlet; grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Casey Barfield, Molly Walters, Ryan Walters, Payson Cox; great grandchldren, Jayden Cooper, Marley Barfield, Titus Walters, Liam Walters, Hudson Walters, Jennings Barfield and a host of loving family and friends.

     Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2020 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Pastor Don Malpass. Burial will follow the service in Pinecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to services on Monday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m at the funeral home.

     The family requests in lieu of flowers for memorial donations to be given to Scotland Regional Hospice for Morrison Manor, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.

 

 

     Due to the current COVID-19 Mandates and to ensure public safety, masks are requested to be worn and attendance will be limited for services.
