Peggy O’Neal Scott English, our beloved Godly mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of Gibson departed this life for her Heavenly home at the age of 89 on May 6, 2025. A precious lady who will deeply be missed.
She was the daughter of the late Purcell Scott and the late Pearlie Mae Locklear Scott, born March 20, 1936 in Robeson County, NC. Peggy enjoyed her work as a supervisor with JP Stevens, Inc., retiring after many devoted years. She served as a faithful member since 1963 of Gibson Pentecostal Holiness Church where she loved to worship and outings with the church group. Peggy cherished time spent reading her Bible, singing, sewing, sitting outdoors watching the birds, and traveling. Her greatest joy came from time shared with her family and friends. Mrs. Peggy always had a special way of making everyone feel loved with her warming smile, wonderful hugs, and her uplifting words of encouragement. She was a true example and witness of the love of Christ.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her adored husband, Eli Thomas English; sons, Eli Thomas English, Jr., Timothy Dale English; brothers, Sidney Scott, Purcell Scott, Jr., Henry Lewis Scott; and sister, Sallie M. Scott.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Sharon Smith (Richard) of Gibson, NC, Sheila K. Miller of Gibson, NC, Minnie C. Sapp (Craig) of Belton, SC, Regina M. Adams (Bobby) of Bennettsville, SC; brother, Lawrence Scott of Palm Beach, FL; sister, Sue Barley of Greensboro, NC; adoring fifteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and fourteen great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, her extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. John Cartrette. Burial will follow the service in Pinecrest Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday prior to the services beginning 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
