Peggy Ann “Jewel” Shepherd Beasley was born May 26, 1937 in Scotland County, daughter of the late Spencer Shepherd and Bertha Ward, and lovingly raised by the late Janie Carlisle Shepherd. She worked many years for Morgan Mills, Springs Mills, JP Stevens, and with Scotland Memorial Hospital. She was a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophesy of Laurel Hill. Jewel loved reading through the Bible, reading through the scriptures 24 times during her lifetime. She enjoyed cooking, baking, planting flowers, and watching the Hallmark Channel, along with singing and swinging on her porch. She was a published poet, had a loving, compassionate spirit who would do anything for anyone. She loved talking with her neighbors and never met a stranger. Her passion was caring for children and she lovingly raised many of her family members. Above all, Jewel adored her husband and always claimed that he was her hero. She was deeply devoted to her family and will always be remember as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Jewel passed away at age 84 to her Heavenly home on November 15, 2021.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by infant daughter, Tonya Lynn Beasley; brother, Charles Shepherd; sisters, Doris Reece, Melbie Fedler.
Jewel leaves behind her devoted husband of 67 years, James “Jimmy” Beasley of the home; son, James “Jamie” Beasley, III of Maxton; daughter, Wanda Beasley Pate of Laurel Hill; brother, Tommy Shepherd (Lou) of Laurinburg; sisters, Vivian Sionka (Danny), Phyllis Johnson (Gene), of Laurinburg; granddaughter, Autumn Pate Chavis (Jody Strickland) of Laurel Hill, great grandchild, Natalee Cheyanne, along with a host of many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Rev. Albert Cliff, Sr. and Rev. Carl Beasley. Burial will follow in King Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the funeral home.
