Nathan Oxendine

Rev. Nathan Oxendine of 6480 Whitlock Road, Laurinburg, NC departed this life for his heavenly home on January 25, 2025 at the age of 80. He was born on September 17, 1944 to Early and Gladys Oxendine in Scotland County, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary “Ginger’ Oxendine, his grandson, Nathan Brice Haywood, his siblings: Willie Sanford Oxendine, James Oxendine, Early Oxendine Jr., Jerry Oxendine, Mary Bull and Ada Mae Locklear.

Rev. Nathan Oxendine's call to the ministry began in 1968 when he preached his first sermon at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Laurinburg, NC under the leadership of Pastor James Hunt. He spent most of his work on the farm where he worked many years at the McNair’s Seed Company, Midway Cotton Gin as well as in produce. He loved farming but his greatest love was sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone he met. After introducing himself, he would quickly change the subject to the love of God. Everyone who worked with him witnessed his love for His Lord and Savior. Those who came to purchase produce not only got their vegetables, but they received spiritual food as well because as Rev. Nathan was packaging their vegetables, he shared how good God was. He was a man of great faith and he held on to that faith until the very end. He would always say that God can do anything, you just have to believe. He loved God completely but a close second was the love he had for his family.

Rev. Nathan, affectionately known by his family as daddy, papa, brother, uncle was a beloved family man and his family can truly attest to his great love for them. He made sure that his family was taken care of and introduced to Jesus Christ. He was not a man of great wealth but he was a man of abundant love. There was not a person that he was not willing to help. Time after time, he shared what he had with those in need and his home was always opened to anyone who needed help. He was a man who understood God’s grace more than most people which is why he had such a deep love for God and for sharing God’s mercy and love with others. One of his favorite songs was, “Lord I Mean to Make It This Last Time” and he would sing it with such sincerity. He faithfully served at Melody Land Faith Chapel in Little Rock, SC for many devoted years. As a family, we celebrate his life and rejoice in the fact that he is with the one that he preached and sang about for so many years.

Rev. Nathan leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters: Pamela Smith (Kenny) and Rachel Oxendine (David) both of Maxton, NC; Colette Oxendine and Stacey Oxendine both of Laurinburg, NC; his son, Joseph Andrew Butler (Lisa) of Fayetteville, NC; fourteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grands. He is also survived by his siblings: Rev Roscoe Oxendine (Lillian) of Dillon, SC, Jeanette Sheppard of Laurinburg, NC, Gladys Locklear of Little Rock, SC, stepsisters, Vivian Miller of Laurinburg, NC and Rosie Oxendine of Rowland NC, as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following in Melody Land Faith Chapel Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the funeral home
