Mitchell "Mitch" Louis Melton

Mitchell “Mitch” Louis Melton was born June 4, 1939 in Rockingham, North Carolina, son of the late John James and Ollie Carpenter Pope Melton. He retired after many years with AT&T Communications. Mitch was a member of Stewartsville Baptist Church, where in past years, he enjoyed serving and also playing church softball, also known as “Flash”. He loved race cars, remote control airplanes, and was a member of the Civitan Club. Mitch loved spending time with family, especially traveling to visit with grandchildren. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Mitch passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on June 15, 2022.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, J.B. Pope, Bill Pope, and Rodney Melton.

Mitch is survived by his wife, Phyllis McDuffie Melton of Murrells Inlet, SC; children, Mitchell “Louis” Melton, Jr. (Darrell Senter) of Garden City Beach, SC; daughter, Michelle Melton Connelly (Jeff) of Walton County, GA; brother, Jimmy Melton (Wanda); sister, Janice Hogan, all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Carrie C. Harris (Jackson) of Madison, AL, Olivia M. Connelly of Statesboro, GA; one great grandson, James Jeffrey Harris, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be Monday June 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
