Milton Chavis, Jr. Obituary

Milton Chavis Jr., 70, of Laurel Hill, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 1, 1948, in Dillon, South Carolina to the late Milton Chavis and Alice Spaulding Chavis. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Milton worked at Piedmont Poultry, was a Sanitation/Maintenance Manager for Perdue Farms and worked at Redman Homes. He was the President of JC’s. He had many talents, some of those being welding, making leather accessories and working in his garden.

Milton enjoyed watching football and pulling for his favorite team, the Washington Redskins.  He also had a passion for raising chickens. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.  

In addition to his parents, Milton is preceded in death by one son, Tommy Wayne Owens, two sisters Lettie Mae Chavis and Nettie Chavis Jacobs; two brothers, Ronald Marshall Chavis and David Earl Chavis, three step-brothers, James Oxendine, Bill Oxendine and Sanford Oxendine, step-sister, Ada Mae Locklear and step-father Early Oxendine.

Milton is survived by his wife, Lillie Owens Chavis, his sons, Milton Anthony Chavis, James Matthew Deal (Karen), daughters, Wanda McCarthy and Haylee Raye Chavis Cook (Johnny). His grandchildren, Destiny Reigh Ann Chavis, Milton Tate Chavis, Adrianna Faith Chavis, Allyson Katelyn Chavis, Anthony Len Chavis, Charles Houston Chavis, William Phillip Chavis, Samuel Padon Jones, Rodney Morton Jr., Annabella Nicole Heffner, Isabella Michelle Heffner, Cameron Cheyenne Locklear, Serenity Jade Deal, Jessica Nicole Bartley Jackson (Craig), Johnathon Brisco Bartley (Hannah), Jolee Mae Cook, Josie Raye Cook and great-grandchildren, Annabel Jean Bartley, Eliza Jane Bartley and Greyson Alan Brisco Bartley. He is also survived by two sisters, Rose Ellen Oxendine, Vivian Ann Miller (Julius), two brothers, James Ellis Chavis and Thomas Calvin Chavis (Lizzie); three step-sisters, Mary Lois Bull, Jeannett Sheppard, and Gladys Lee Locklear; two step-brothers, Rev. Nathan Oxendine and Rev. Rosco Oxendine and many other family members and friends.

Milton had a positive attitude and always offered words of encouragement. He greeted his loved ones with open arms and a radiant smile.  Milton was strong, loyal and he loved unconditionally. He was adored by all who knew him and he will be sorely missed.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Milton will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday,  January 12, 2019 at the Shady Grove Baptist Church.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation for Milton will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
