Melba Yvonne Thompson Sims went to her heavenly home on March 2nd, 2026, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born on February 7th, 1937 in Hamlet, NC, the loving daughter of the late Albert E. Thompson, Sr. and Ruby Austin Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brent Lee Sims, Sr.
She worked as Insurance Coordinator over the years for several local medical offices and retired as Aftercare Coordinator for Richard Boles Funeral Home.
She was an avid member of Caledonia Methodist Church for many years. She truly loved God and Jesus and serving the Lord.
She was involved in many local senior groups as well as many church groups and committees. She also enjoyed square dancing with the Scottish Twirlers and the Laurel Scot Quadrille.
Melba loved her family, her kids, her grands, great grands and great-great grands. She had many friends and loved staying in touch with her Class of 1955 classmates. She loved her fur babies of which there were several but Kodi, Snowball, Jodi/Fluffercat, and Aby Cat were most special to her along with her grand dog Barney and grand cat Josie.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Sims Herring, of Laurinburg, her son, Michael E. Sims (Judy), of Harrisburg, NC, and son, Brent Lee Sims Jr. (Angel) of Hope Mills; as well as her grandchildren, Crystal Sims Evans (Dedric), Brent Lee Sims, III "Jason” (Jessica), Ryan Michael Sims (Justin), Megan Sims Fischer (Andrew), Logan Matthew Sims (Rebeckah); as well as 13 great grands and 3 great-great grands; and her brother, Albert E. Thompson, Jr. and sister Rosalyn T. Cooper.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel followed by burial in the Caledonia Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
