Mary "Rubyanne" (Cottingham) Major

Mary Rubyanne Cottingham Major of Gibson, NC, born 80 years ago, on April 23, 1942, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2022.

She was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Cottingham and Ruby Mae Gibson Cottingham. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Andrews College in 1982.  Along with being a homemaker, her life work was in retail management until her retirement.  She was a devoted North Carolina State University fan, an avid Sudoku and strategy game player who also enjoyed completing painting by numbers online.  She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Laurinburg where she loved her time of service and worship.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Thomas Major; brother, Andrew Cottingham, and son-in-law, Kevin Hunt.

Left to cherish her memory are son, Donald Thomas Major II of Cary; daughters, Mary “Jackie” Hunt of Gibson, and Belinda Alayne Major of Wilson; brother, John Cottingham (Anita); sister-in-law, Lynda Cottingham; grandchildren; Benjamin Hunt (Walter “Chip” Rowden), Ian Hunt (Laura), Josh Anthony Graham, Zach Graham (Jessica), and Gabrielle Graham; great-grandchildren,  Jeremiah, Bryson, Zachary, Joshua, Melanie, Bella, Evalyn, Scarlette, Trinity, Amelia, Zoey, and Liana; along with a host of loving family and friends. 

Graveside service to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022 in Hillside Cemetery.   The family will receive friends following the service at graveside.
