Mary “Pee Wee” Scott Hatcher was born August 11, 1943 in Robeson County, one of twenty-one children, and daughter of the late John Scott and Gertrude Strickland Scott. She was the devoted wife to the late Everett Hatcher. She served as a faithful member of Eastside Emmanuel Holiness Church and retired after many years from Springs Mills, Inc. Pee Wee enjoyed working crossword puzzles in her spare time, but she most loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She passed away to her Heavenly home at age 78 on January 2, 2022.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Alma Jean Chavis; brothers, James Scott, Roy Scott, Robert Scott, Jack Scott, Frank Scott, Lawrence Scott, Bobby Scott, Archie Scott, Billy Scott, and Colin Scott; sisters, Gertrude Cummings, Ruby Bradford, and Vivian McLamb.
Pee Wee leaves behind to cherish her memory, children, Diane Norton (Larry) of Laurel Hill, James Chavis (Judy) of Laurinburg, Dannie Chavis (Cathy) of Laurel Hill, Hurley Chavis, Jr. (Darlene) of Erma, NJ; sister, Beulah Mae Grooms of Laurel Hill; grandchildren, Larry Norton, Jr. (Sheta) of Battleboro, Marcus Norton (Heather) of Apex, Brittany Chavis of Greensboro, Kelton Chavis, Colby Chavis, both of Laurel Hill; great grandchildren, Destiny Norton, Majesta Norton, Ni’Caila Norton, Xiomari Norton, I’Juana Odom, Evan Norton, Kristen Norton, Kendall Chavis, Dansby Chavis, Harper Chavis, Tatum Chavis, Aubrey Jaye Brim, Dakota, Tayson; great-great grandchild, Elizabeth Norton, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Rev. John Quick and Rev. James Croke. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
