Mary “Joyce” Caulder was the loving daughter of the late James Edmond Caulder and the late Carrie Love Caulder born August 22, 1933 in Scotland County. One of her fondest childhood memories was her mother playing with her and siblings whether outside or inside, being a mother and sister in one. Joyce was a devoted homemaker along with being successful in real estate with United Management and later joining Walmart where she loved her work in customer service until retiring July 2021. Joyce’s church home was the Springfield Church of God where she served as a faithful longtime member.
Joyce was fortunate to explore a vast majority of the world while being a military wife. During this time, she proudly organized and became the Charter President for the Ladies Auxiliary for Veterans of Foreign Wars in Forest Park, Georgia. She was a passionate Elvis Presley fan who loved filling her home with his music and memorabilia. Her greatest joy was sharing time with her precious family whom she loved and adored. Joyce passed to her Heavenly home at the age of 89 on August 17, 2023 a few days shy of her 90th birthday.
Along with her parents and husbands, preceding in death are children, Rebecca “Becky” Norton, Randy Winfield Hicks, Vanessa Herrin and son-in-law, David Herrin; step son, Donell Douglas; siblings, Katie Byrd, Irene Jernigan, Eugene Caulder, Inez Stone, Jesse Caulder; great grandchildren, Selena Pipkin and Tyler Jones.
Joyce is survived by her children, Jeanette Taylor (Mitchell) of Maxton, Ida Stewart (Benny) of Laurinburg, Rhonda Bristow (Buddy) of Laurinburg, Roger Hicks (Becky) of Laurinburg; step daughter, Julie Minter; siblings, Bobby E. Caulder and Ruby Hicks; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren; her many nieces, nephews, and host of extended family. Joyce also had special lifelong friends, Judy Hunsucker and Sammie Sweatt, the late Felicia Mims and the late Layton Allen.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the Springfield Church of God officiated by Rev. David Shoemake with graveside committal following in Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be prior to services on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Springfield Church of God.
