Mark Cornwell Nealis of Laurinburg, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025. He was 75. Born in Maryland on December 22, 1949, to Richard Nealis and Winnifred Macri, he graduated from Walter Johnson High School and joined the Army, where he served from 1968 to 1971. Mark lived in Florida for the majority of his life, where he became the owner of Nealis Plumbing. He dedicated his life to Jesus and serving others. He expressed his faith by doing ministry at the prison. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans group in Avon Park. Mark was a devoted husband who loved nothing more than being with his wife, children, and pets. He was a hard worker who enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and reading. Mark's memory will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and mentorship will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda Nealis; daughters Crystal McDannold and Sherralin Clack; sons-in-law Scott McDannold and Joshua Clack; siblings Jim Nealis (Arlene), Guy Nealis (Debra), and Susan Fisher (Thomas); brother-in-law Samuel Capua (Anna); mom Sarajean Capua Layne; grandchildren Kate, Amalia, and Joel McDannold; and many nieces and nephews.
Mark is preceded in death by his son, Dustin Nealis; parents Richard Nealis and Winifred Macri; mother-in-law Gwanna Holtzclaw; brother-in-law Michael Capua; sister-in-law Patricia Holtzclaw; and father-in-law Demetrio Capua.
A memorial service will be held on October 13, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. in the Western Carolina State Veteran Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC.
