Margreate Strickland Simpson, age 87 of Laurinburg, NC departed this life on April 22, 2026.
She was the loving daughter of the late Stanton and Annie Ruth Locklear Strickland, born April 26, 1938 in Robeson County, NC. Margreate worked as a manager with Harbor Laundry Mat for many dedicated years until retiring. She served as a member of Highland Free Will Baptist Church in Vass, NC. Margreate loved gardening, reading a good book, finding treasures at yard sales, and traveling to the mountains. She loved taking care of her mom, dad, and brother, “Buddy” until their passing. Above all, she loved her family deeply and cherished their time together. Margreate was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Harold "Bud" Simpson and James McGirt; brothers, J.C. “Buddy” Strickland, Robert Neal Strickland, Sr., Glen "David" Strickland; sisters, Shelby Jean Strickland, Virginia Bates, Victoria Jackson; daughter-in-law, Rose Ann Strickland; and son-in-law, Samuel Butler, Sr.
Margreate is survived by son, Mitchell Strickland of Maxton; daughter, Brenda L. Butler of Maxton; brothers, Stanton “June” Strickland of Maxton, Charles Jeffrey Strickland of Maxton; sisters, Delois Clark of Laurinburg, Louise Emanuel of Maxton, Barbara Locklear of Laurinburg, Patricia Strickland of Maxton; grandchildren, Mitchell Kelly Strickland, Kimberly Chavis, Kerri Strickland, Samuel Butler, Jr., Clerissa Butler, Aaron Butler; and fourteen great-grandchildren; along with a host of loving extended family and friends.
The funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The graveside committal service be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026 in the Highland Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Vass, NC.
