On the afternoon of June 2, 2025, our beloved Margaret Elizabeth Alford Byrd, precious mother, adored grandmother and great grandmother entered her Heavenly home at the age of 93.
Margaret was born June 27, 1931, daughter of the late Boyd Raleigh Alford and the late Joanna Cannon Alford of Bladen County, North Carolina. She loved sharing her life with her devoted husband of 58 years the late Norwood Lynn Byrd who passed away in 2007. Margaret was a Godly woman devoting her time to help others. She was a faithful member of the Laurel Hill Church of God of Prophecy where she served as the missions director, choir member, adult Sunday School class teacher and loved being the ABM Band leader. She then delightfully served and worshipped at Northview Harvest Ministries.
She was proud to be one of The Pioneers and loved her career as a telephone operator retiring after 29 years of service with Bellsouth/ AT&T. Along with sharing time with her family, Mrs. Margaret loved reading, baking her delicious cakes, flower gardening, and especially shopping. Her special wit, contagious smile and those special hugs will deeply be missed by all.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by brother, Eugene Alford; and sister, Geneva Williams.
Mrs. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Vicky Ostmann (Frank) of Hampstead, NC, Patty Deaton (John) of Hampstead, NC, Lori Parks (Scott) of Gibson, NC; sister-in-law, Shirley Alford of Ohio; adored grandchildren, Robert Hampton (Ruth), Brian Hampton (Teresa), Brett Deaton (Becky), Tyler Parks (Chelsea), Vickie Wright (Darren); great grandchildren, Lauren Deaton (fiancé, Dylan Steed), Matthew Deaton, Christopher Hampton, Carlos Rivera-Scott, Anna Rivera-Scott; great-great grandchildren, CJ, Haley, Raelynn, Kyle; special friend, Shirley Stuart of Laurel Hill, and the late Barbara Jean Robinson. She also leaves a host of loving extended family and many friends.
Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Tim Hodge followed by a private family graveside in Laurinburg Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be held prior to services on Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
