Lois Brooks Obituary

Lois Deese Brooks, 92 of Maxton, NC, passed peacefully on September 20, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on March 09, 1933, to the late Mr. Berk Deese and Mrs. Lincy Deese, and later loved by Mrs. Myrtle Deese, she lived a life defined by love, strength, and care for others. Though she never worked a public job, she was a homemaker in the truest sense—building a home filled with love, food, and laughter.

She was a woman small in stature but mighty in spirit. She never bit her tongue and never hesitated to speak her mind. With a fiery heart and a sharp honesty, she was the one who told it like it was—and those who knew her loved her all the more for it. At the same time, she was a caregiver at heart. If someone was sick, she was there with a meal, and a helping hand. She lovingly cared for her husband during his illness and poured her strength into her family through every season of life. When her grandson Quentin was born with health challenges, she was right there, offering unwavering care and devotion. She loved her family deeply—especially her grandchildren—and she worried for them endlessly. Known as the “worrywart” of the family, she always saw the dangers ahead and was quick to remind those she loved to “be careful.” Her worries came from a heart overflowing with love, always wanting to keep everyone safe.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, honesty, and selfless care that will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her. She is survived by her brothers: Mr. Simeon Deese “Chub”, Mr. Samuel Deese, Mr. Steve Deese and Mr. Bill Deese; daughters: Sherry Brooks, Rita Lossman, and Brenda Locklear; grandchildren: Shanolyn Locklear, Clay Locklear, Mark Locklear, Brooke Gonzalez, Gwen Locklear, and Taylor Locklear. She was preceded in death by her husband: Eugene Brooks; siblings, Robert "Buddy" Deese, Gladys Locklear, Carol Sampson, Callie Mae Oxendine, Marilyn "Jewel" Deese, Wilma Dial, and Cynthia Deese; her grandsons Quentin Strickland, and Matthew Kevin Locklear. In addition to her grandchildren, she leaves behind a beautiful legacy of great-grandchildren.

Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following at White Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
