Linda Guthrie Gibson

Linda Guthrie Gibson passed from this life into her eternal life in Heaven on April 22, 2026, at the First Health Hospice House, where she was cared for tremendously. She passed at the age of 74, following a brief battle with cancer.

Linda devoted her life to taking care of others, as this was her life’s passion. She spent the better portion of her life being a caregiver to her husband, Johnny, of 33 years, and being a mother to her daughters, Hope and Christy. Aside from taking care of her family, she was a teacher’s aide in the Scotland County School System for many years until her MS diagnosis, and she later became an academic aide to the handicapped at St. Andrews Presbyterian College. She maintained relationships with many of her students later in life because they were very special to her. Linda lived in Laurinburg for majority of her life until she later moved to Southern Pines, where she resided until her passing.

Aside from her family and friends, if you know Linda, then you know she loved four things in life with a passion. These were Zoey (her cat), Brooks and Dunn, Olive Garden, and communicating with those she loved. One thing about Linda, she was committed to her passions, therefore it was easy to enjoy these things alongside her. We will truly miss sharing these with her, but will continue to enjoy them in honor of her.

Linda is proceeded in death by her parents William and Louise Guthrie, her husband John H. Gibson, and her daughter Carin Hope Tucker.

Linda is survived by her daughter Christy Pastrana (William) of West End, NC. She is also survived by her four amazing grandchildren, Sawyer, Tucker, Gianna, and Gracie, to whom she loved dearly, her stepchildren Gary and Terry Gibson of Asheville, NC, and her nephew Harold (Dooley) and wife Donna Gibson of Laurinburg, NC. Aside from her immediate family, Linda is survived by her son out law, Tommy Gibbons of Carthage, NC, her best friend of 50 years, Dawn Cole of Laurinburg, NC, her chosen family, Marci Gonzalez of Aberdeen, NC, along with her children, Josh and Tyler, and her special friends Jenna Brown of Laurinburg and Lisa Longo of Aberdeen, NC.

Linda was loved by so many, and her absence will be greatly felt. Please pray for her family and friends during this time.

A celebration of her life will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church followed by burial in the Snead-Norton Family Cemetery.   Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
